Why I chose Business Management?

Many students have asked me, "Sir, post B.Tech you have done your MBA and have been working in the field for almost 9 years, have you ever thought at least for once in these 9 years that getting into MBA was a correct choice. Have you ever felt that you made a mistake by choosing MBA over M.Tech. Are you really happy with your choices or are you going with the flow?"

When anyone asks me this question I just smile because, for me MBA (Business Management) was not a course, it was the foundation that was going to change my life.

You might say then "Why did you join B.Tech when you thought Business Management was the foundation".

Well, in Andhra Pradesh (or most South Indian states), to be part of the society you need to either be an  Engineering (B.tech) student or medical student (MBBS). If by mistake you choose any other course your treatment will be completely special. They treat you like an outcast.

In 2005, I was confused and I didn't know what to choose, and during this confusion period with the help of my uncle may parents chose Engineering. I still remember my uncle's words. He said, "Son, I know you like business and arts, your parents know you like business and arts, but if you want this world to respect you, you must either choose Engineering or Medicine. So as per your Intermediate course Engineering is the best fit. First become an engineer then you can do what ever you want. And, we want an Engineer in house no matter what. Even it turns out to be a worst one I don't care". A shitty mind set that killed many dreams.

I'm not joking, if you observe many Actors, Athletes, Singers, Choreographers, Painters, and Artists choose their passion post engineering.

In 2005 I didn't have a choice but in 2010 I had a choice that is why I chose to join MBA. I took me one year to reset my mind and focus.

Why I chose Business Management?
The credit goes to Business Game (board game). At first I played the game out of compulsion (I was the younger brother) but as the days passed I started to like it. The Buying, Selling, Analysis, and Victory made me love the game even more. The game taught me to think, decide, organise, analyse, plan, teamwork, and most importantly it taught me "to be competitive". The best part about the game what I loved is "the dice roll". No one knows what number might come, so we must be prepared no matter what. Your heart and mind goes for a small roller coster ride.

That small board game created an interest in me. It made me feel like a boss. That very moment I decided I wanted to be a businessman.

So if you keep aside the board game and child in me, the five reasons behind the decision of MBA post B.Tech is,
  1. Be my own boss
  2. MBA was the only course which could give me an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the core elements of business and a great introduction to the business world as I had no prior experience
  3. Understand multiple disciplines (Finance, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, and Operations) that help me grow.
  4. Develop skills like Critical and Strategic thinking, Business Communication, Leadership, and Project Management
  5. Generate Employment (a personal reason)
I wanted to Change myself and my life. I felt, in order to be your own boss and also be part of the nations growth I must choose MBA.

So, what is the reason behind you choosing MBA?
