Understanding Marketing in a fun way

What is Marketing?

Whenever anyones asks us "What is Marketing" the first thing that comes to our mind is the definition which we learnt in our college days, i.e.,  "Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large." ....... but have you ever really tried to understand what marketing is apart from just memorising the definition. 

The reason why I'm asking this is, many students know the definition of marketing by heart but they fail to understand the real core. So, let put forward a fun example about marketing which I came across few years back. I hope with this fun example you will understand what marketing is.

• You see a girl at a party, you go to her and say, "I'm Rich", marry me! - This is called Direct Marketing.
• You are at a party with a bunch of friends and you see a girl. One of your friends goes up to her and pointing at you says, "He is rich, marry him". - This is called Advertising. 
• You are at a party and you see a girl. She walks up to you and says, "You are very rich, can you marry me?" - This is called Brand Recognition.
• You see a girl at a party. You go up to her and say, "I', very rich. Marry me!" and she gives you a nice hard slap on your face. - This is called Customer Feed Back.
• You see a girl at a party. You go up to her and say "I'm very rich. Marry me!". She introduces you to her husband. - This is called Demand and Supply Gap.
• You see a girl at a party. You go up to her and before you say I'm rich. Marry me!, your wife arrives. - This is called Restriction from Entering New Markets. 

I hope this examples gives you a brief about marketing. And, don't forget, Marketing is fun because we can get creative.
